George T. Morgan designed the Morgan Silver Dollars. Values of these silver dollars vary depending on several factors. Like most people that are into coin collecting, the longer you are at it, the more you know. Collecting and knowing about the Morgan Silver Dollar is no exception.

There were 96 different Morgan silver dollars minted between 1878 and 1904 plus 1921. The value of any of these coins is dependent not only the condition of the coin but how rare is and where it was minted. The different places this coin was minted are Carson City designated by CC on the coin, Philadelphia designated by P, Denver is designated by the letter D, New Orleans is represented by the letter O and S is the symbol from those coins minted in San Francisco.

The most valuable Morgan Silver Dollars are due to the limited minting of these particular coins and they are the 1889 CC with only 350,000 minted, the 1893 S with only 100,000 minted and the 1895 proof where only 12880 were minted. The most valuable one is the 1895 proof which are worth over $100,000 each.

In the years of minting this coin, several variations were done to the mold. The coins minted with these variations are known as the VAM’s. there are 6000 of these coins known to be minted and they are the 1878 P tail feathers, 1879 CC clear, 1882 O over S, 1887 O 7 over 6, 1888 O scare face, 1888 O hot lips, 1900 O over CC, 1901 P shifted eagle, and the 1903 S micro S.

Other valuable years are the 1889 CC, 1892 CC, 1893, 1893 S, 1894 and 1895 O. Any coin made in Carson City Nevada is considered a good investment because of not only the connection with the old west but because it has closed and the limited production out of that mint.

For those of you that are just beginning in coin collecting this will be a guide to knowing the Morgan Silver Dollar values.
